Captain Kevin Klinges

Highly professional, experienced, skilled sail and power boat captain.

 

Kevin grew up sailing the Chesapeake Bay since he was four years old with his 4 older brothers. His father owned a 42’ Irwin that they sailed every summer from the north to the south up until his college years. At age 19 Kevin moved to The Virgin Islands, while and crewed on a 68’ triamaran that sailed to Grenada, Venezuela and back to St. Thomas.

Living in St. Thomas for three years Kevin worked on a 55 foot catamaran crewing day sails from Charlotte Amalie Harbor to Saint John while also working at a dive shop receiving his rescue diver certification. He also has a transatlantic crossing on a lagoon catamaran that ended in tragedy which defined his life and approach to sailing.

After living in Sun Valley Idaho for 20 years, always returning to Sailing here and there, he finally resumed his sailing career in Charleston South Carolina. Working as a sailing captain for Charleston Sailing School for seven years Kevin honed his skills as a proficient instructor and cruising consultant. Over the years racking up deliveries from Maine to Florida to the Caribbean. He and his family also sailed to the Bahamas on a lagoon 400 for almost 2 years.

This period of time being able to drive and handle many different types and sizes of boats from monohulls to catamarans, Kevin developed an innate ability to teach and convey the nuances of boat handling, sail trim, weather routing an preparation for cruising.
